Sedona is surrounded by state parks, including Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon, seven miles north of Uptown Sedona on the way to Flagstaff. Swimming, fishing, hiking, and views of remarkable rock formations are all available at the park, where brave swimmers slide down a natural rock slide into Oak Creek, which runs at the bottom of the steep-walled canyon. Red Rock State Park, seven miles to the south, is a less-crowded choice, and has five miles of interconnected trails with terrific views. This park also offers organized activities, such as nature walks and birth-watching expeditions.
